Bailiff recovers man from police custody

RAWALPINDI, Aug 25: A court bailiff appointed by the district and sessions judge (DSJ) here on Monday recovered a man from Saddar Bairooni police station where he was being detained in an attempted murder case despite having obtained interim bail.

The bailiff recovered Asif Ali Butt from the police station where he had gone on the directives of an additional district and sessions judge to file his complaint against some men who he alleged were trying to kill him.

Raja Moin Sultan, a local leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML), had moved an appeal with the district and sessions judge, saying that the ASJ had asked Sub-Inspector (SI) Safdar to take necessary legal action on the complaint of Mr Butt.

He said when Mr Butt reached the police station, the personnel arrested him and tortured him on the pretext that he was wanted in a case. They did not spare him even after he showed them the bail orders.

The DSJ directed the SHO Saddar Bairooni to appear in the court on August 28 and explain his position.
