Larkana nazim suspended

LARKANA, Aug 28: The Sindh chief minister has suspended Larkana Taluka Nazim Qurban Abbasi for 90 day on corruption charges. Naib Nazim Yasir Junejo took over the charge of acting taluka nazim on Thursday.

Director General, Sindh Local Government Commission, Dr Irfan Ahmed Memon, issued a notification in this regard.

Mr Abbasi would file a constitution petition challenging orders of the Chief Minister in Sindh High Court on Monday, said the sources.

The chief minister, receiving complaints against the Taluka Nazim, signed the summary of his suspension on Tuesday, Mr Junejo said. Mr Junejo had also been writing to Sindh Local Government Commission and Anti-Corruption Establishment regarding alleged corruption of Taluka Nazim.

Mr Junejo said that the Chief Minister had framed three charges on Nazim: allegedly selling plots at old bus stand at lower rates, spending Rs140 million, and keeping a 1600cc car without the Council’s approval.

Former Chairman, ACE Sindh, Malik Asad Ashraf had initiated inquiry into the alleged charges and the ACE Larkana registered different FIRs against him.

Mr Junejo would look after the affairs of Council for 90 days and if charges proved then Nazim (Qurban Abbasi) could be removed, said the sources.

PROTEST: A large number of Qambar residents took to streets against long durations of electricity failures on the call of Citizens Action Committee (CAC) on Thursday.
