KOHAT: Kurram DPs seek relief package

KOHAT, Sept 6: The Parachinar Reforms Committee has demanded of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to constitute a national level jirga of ulema, tribal elders and parliamentarians for restoration of peace in the Kurram Agency.

Addressing a meeting here on Saturday, chief of the representative body of the displaced persons (DPs) of the region, Haji Sawab Gul Jaji, welcomed the decision of the prime minister to convene an ulema convention on the deteriorating law and order situation in the agency.

He appealed for relief package for the thousands of displaced persons of the region. He said that they needed medicines, food and education facilities for more than 5,000 displaced persons mostly children, women and elderly people who had been forced to leave their hometown several months back. The local administration and federal government have ignored the helpless people so far, he added.

Mr Jaji said that the issue of sectarian fighting in Kurram Agency could not be resolved unless both sides stop levelling baseless allegations against each other and behave with maturity and sincerity.

He demanded of NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and advisor to the prime minister on interior, Rehman Malik, to give warning to the neighbouring government which had allegedly been arming ‘sinister elements’ and fanning sectarianism to destabilize Pakistan.
