LAHORE, Sept 6: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Director I.A Rehman has said that journalists in Pakistan have struggled for freedom of expression against all odds.

Speaking after presentations on 61-year history of media during a conference on ‘Commemorating Journalism in Pakistan’, he said journalists had not only lost their jobs but also gone to jails during the course of their struggle.

He said most of their problems had, however, been solved with the new developments which had made censorship impossible.

Mr Rehman said not only the objectivity required to be maintained in journalism but all schools of thought should be provided an opportunity to express their point of view.

Senior journalist Husain Naqi said former East Pakistan had led the struggle for freedom of expression as long as it remained a part of the country.

Former federal minister S.M Masud said the freedom of expression should not be misused for distortion of facts.

South Asian Media School trainees Komal Ahmed, Muhammad Faraz, Farrukh Anjum, Muhammad Imran, Shazia Vaseer and Kausar Batool gave presentations on the struggle of journalists for freedom of expression during the 61-year history of the country.
