HYDERABAD: SHO faces inquiry for releasing accused

HYDERABAD, Sept 7: The DPO of Hyderabad, Ghulam Nabi Memon, on Sunday ordered an inquiry against the Latifabad A-section SHO for releasing an accused after a mob laid a siege to the police station to pressurise the police to do so.

Latifabad Supervising Police Officer (SPO) Maroof Wahla said that A-section police had picked up Fayyaz Memon in connection with a complaint of Kareem Bux Khaskheli, a manager of local PPP leader Mirza Ashiq Baig, on charges of land-grabbing in unit-11 of Latifabad near protective bund.

Some other cases were also pending against him for his suspected involvement in land-grabbing. He was detained at the police station. In the meantime, a large number of people laid a siege to police station. They lit bonfires and barged in the police station.

The SHO A-section, Afzal Qureshi, released the accused on personal bond.

He confirmed that he had released Fayyaz Memon, a former police sentry, on personal bond, although he had been nominated in some land grabbing cases.

The Latifabad SPO said that the SHO had released the accused even before he arrived there after calling for reinforcement from adjacent police stations and police line.

The DPO has directed SP city Qamar Raza Jaskani to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a report to him.
