Metsu quits UAE job

ABU DHABI, Sept 22: Bruno Metsu, who famously took Senegal to the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup, quit as coach of the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, the UAE football federation announced.

The Frenchman stood down after the UAE lost both of their opening matches in the final Asian qualifying round for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“Bruno Metsu presented his resignation and we will soon announce the name of his successor for the rest of the 2010 World Cup qualifying phase,” said Mohamed al-Roumaithi, the president of the UAE football federation.—AFP
