Asif to appear before IPL panel on Oct 11

LAHORE, Sept 24: Dope-tainted bowler Mohammad Asif will appear before the Indian Premier League doping panel on Oct 11 to face allegations of being tested positive during the first edition of the league held in India in April this year.

Asif’s lawyer Shahid Karim told reporters that Asif received a letter from the IPL asking him to appear before the anti-doping panel on the said date.

The bowler, who had also tested positive before the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 in India, challenged the IPL drugs testing result and visited the laboratory in Switzerland for his B-sample test.

Though the B-sample also turned out positive, a difference in the quantity of the substance encouraged Asif to appear before the anti-doping tribunal.

According to experts, Asif may get the benefit of the doubt due to the difference in the quantity of the substance in his sample.
