Bomb hoax sparks scare at hotel

HYDERABAD, Sept 27: An anonymous cell phone caller created scare by informing that a powerful bomb had been planted in Indus Hotel located on Thandi Sarak on Saturday.

The hotel was immediately vacated and Madadgar-15 was informed.

ASP Cantonment, Asif Iqbal, GOR police and Bomb Disposal Squad Incharge Mr Fakhr rushed to the spot. Officials of law enforcement agencies also reached there.

Mr Fakhr thoroughly checked every nook and corner of the hotel, including rooms but found nothing.

A clearence was given after an hour after which normal business resumed in the hotel.

Several calls were made on the cell phone but in vain.

CIVIL HOSPITAL RAIDED: Inspector, Ismail of Anti-Corruption Establishment here on Saturday raided the accounts office of Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad and seized some record pertaining to purchase of hospital equipment in the month of May 2008.

Reports said that hospital equipment was purchased for Rs110 million but machinery worth Rs40 million was missing.

However, former Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Manzoor Hussain Memon has refuted the allegations.

He told Dawn that tenders were issued for the purchase of machinery and successful bidders were asked to supply the machinery.

He said the district accounts officer issued cheque on June 26 which were to lapse on June 30.

He claimed that 70 per cent of equipment had already been supplied to the hospital and remaining will reach there after customs clearance within next four days.
