SAU VC resumes charge, starts working from home
HYDERABAD, Sept 30: The disputed vice-chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, Dr Basheer Ahmed Shaikh, who was sent on 10-day leave, has resumed the charge of his office ‘at his house’ from Monday.
According to reports, Dr Shaikh called SAU acting vice-chancellor Nizamuddin Halepoto to his house, took over the charge from him and started work from home.
On the other hand, the SAU Employees Action Committee, which has been fiercely opposing the VC and demanding his removal, has announced that the employees will announce their future course of action after Eidul Fitr.
The university employees recently launched a movement against Dr Shaikh which included strike and protest demonstrations at the university and even a long march from the Tandojam campus to Hyderabad Press Club.
The over two-month long campaign coupled with its adverse impact on academic activities led to intervention of Sindh Advocate General, Yusuf Leghari on behalf of the provincial governor/chancellor of universities and a meeting at the governor house where the decision to send the VC on 10-day leave was made. The return of the controversial vice-chancellor has sent a wave of unrest among the university employees.
