Allocation of PA seats for Kohat challenged

KOHAT, May 8: The delimitation of four constituencies of the provincial assembly seats of Kohat into three has been challenged in the Chief Election Commission of Pakistan office, Islamabad, by the Nazim of union council Ustarzai.

The Nazim, Syed Mahtab ul Hassan, who challenged the delimitations in the CEC office, told Dawn that the areas had been reconstituted in a very illogical manner which had affected a particular community.

He said the Kohat district, spread over an area of 380 square kilometres, stretching from Darra Adam Khel to Mianwali in Punjab and Hangu to The Indus, had been allocated only three provincial assembly seats whereas there was a legitimate requirement for a fourth one.

He said the CEC, in an attempt to cover up the areas where there exists demand for a fourth seat, merged them into three constituencies where the interests of different large communities had been affected.

He said that Ustarzai had been merged with Shakardarra where people of both the areas had nothing in common.

Similarly, the political leaders did not know about the values and problems of each other’s areas which would certainly create tension during the elections.
