CM pledges to bring 5,000 AC buses on Sindh roads: End to transporters’ monopoly
KHAIRPUR, Oct 3: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that soon 5,000 air-conditioned buses will be introduced on different routes of Sindh to end monopoly of private transporters while four new tracks of the National Highway from Karachi to Obauro will be constructed.
He was talking to delegations of party workers, senior citizens and traders here at Jilani House and other places in Khairpur city on Thursday.
He said that two flyovers at Therhi Railway Phatak and Shah Hussain Chowk at the National Highway bypass would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs800 million in one year.
He also told that thousands of houses would be constructed under low-cost scheme whereas a labour colony would also be constructed in Khairpur city.
He further said that Asian Development Bank would provide funds for drainage system and drinking water schemes in the seven districts of Sindh, including Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Shikarpur and Nawabshah, while the remaining expenditure would be borne by the Sindh government.
Local leaders of trade apprised the chief minister of their problems and demanded from him to declare Khairpur a tax-free zone, establish a research centre for date farming, improve drainage system, resume stops of Qaraqoram and Faisalabad trains at Khairpur railway station in order to facilitate common people, government employees and traders.
RADIO: PPP-P MNA Nafisa Shah has said that the problems of Radio Pakistan Khairpur would be resolved on priority basis for which she would also talk with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and the Federal Information Minister Sherry Rehman.
She stated this while talking with the technical and administrative staff of Radio Pakistan Khairpur during her visit here on Thursday evening.
Ms Shah agreed that High Power Transmission (HPT), based on Wall System, has become obsolete and new walls were not manufactured in the world. The coverage range has also been reduced significantly as it was originally meant to cover more than 100 kilometres but it could hardly covers Khairpur district due to poor and outdated transmission system.
She was told that Radio Pakistan Khairpur was an important place in the radio broadcast as there was no other radio station between Hyderabad and Bahawalpur. Nafisa Shah advised the staff to constitute a committee and submit their problems in writing.
The administrative staff told her that studio equipments were in the worst condition and needed immediate replacement besides renovation of building and nearby road, new transport vehicles besides increase in staff was also required.
Ms Shah assured the staff of making her best efforts to provide new technology of Digital Transmission System to Radio Pakistan Khairpur.
