Need to raise voice against injustice
FAISALABAD, Oct 6: Speakers at a one-day workshop has stressed the need for raising the voice against injustice and human rights violations.
The National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) organised the workshop at the Centre for Peace and Harmony here on Monday.
The purpose to hold the workshop was to create awareness among masses about human rights so that the public could solve community-based problems on their own.
Among the participants were Muslims and Christian teachers, councillors, students and representatives of the civil society.
Speakers, including NCJP director Father Nisar Barkat, Behram Khan, Hashmat Barkat, Suneel Malik and Yousaf Adnan, said it was the responsibility of human rights activists to impart rights-related education to create harmony and tolerance in society.
Contents of the training were: basic concepts and movements of human rights, state of human rights, challenges and resolves, legal and judicial system, role of human rights activists, state institutions and their functions.
The only way to make Pakistan a non-violent and peaceful territory was the elimination of discrimination from the Constitution, laws and curriculums, they said.
It was crucial that human rights activists worked to bring about a positive social change and establish a civilized society, they said.
