Signature campaign on gas field issue planned

SUKKUR, October 10: Launching of a signature campaign throughout Sindh against privatisation of Qadirpur gas field was, in principle, agreed upon by the participants of a seminar held at the Sukkur Press Club on Friday.

The seminar, held under the aegis of Sindhi Porhiat Hari Sangat, was presided over by its Chairman Punhal Sario. Besides, a huge turnover of workers of Qadirpur gas field, people from all shades of life also attended the seminar.

Punhal Sario, Zahid Bhutto, Mohammad Ramzan Memon, Abdul Malik Khoso, Abdul Rauf Dayo and many others expressed anxiety over the proposed privatisation of Qadirpur gas field and termed the move against the interest of the country, and particularly of the people of Sindh.

They said that the privatisation of PTCL, KESC, Pak Saudi Fertiliser and others rendered thousands of employees jobless, while the move could not come up to the expectations of people, particularly the PTCL and the KESC.

A coordination committee was formed to chalk out future strategy with regards to privatisation proposal, besides launching of signature campaign and mass rallies throughout the province.

However, PPP-SB activists led by advocate Qurban Kalwar staged protest demonstration in front of the Sukkur Press Club on Friday against proposed privatisation of Qadirpur gas field.

Court: The district and sessions court of Jacobabad on Friday allowed a woman to go with her uncle as she feared being killed by her husband on the pretext of karo-kari.

A woman Fatima, wife of Raza Mohammad Ghunio of Sher Khan Ghunio village arrived at Thul police station on Thursday night and complained against her husband and his brother Karamullah Ghunio of allegedly trying to kill her over the pretext of karo-kari.

On Friday morning, Thul police produced her before first additional sessions judge Jacobabad Mushtaq Leghari, wherein, Fatima in her statement said that her husband Raza Mohammad Ghunio and his brother Karamullah Ghunio wanted to put her to death after declaring her kari with their neighbour Ali Asghar Ghunio, therefore she wanted to go with her uncle Abdul Hameed Ghunio. The judge allowed her to go with her uncle.
