Adil, Shahid move into next round: World Open Squash

MANCHESTER, Oct 12: Pakistan players had a mixed fortune in the men’s first qualifying round of the World Open Squash being played at the National Squash Centre here with two moving ahead and one falling.

Khawaja Adil Maqbool and Shahid Zaman both emerged victorious while Waqar Mehboob was shown the door by his South African opponent.

Adil defeated Matthew Karwalski of Austria in straight games 13-11, 11-5, 11-7 while Shahid ousted England’s Darren Lewis 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-9.

Waqar, however, lost 9-11, 11-4, 6-11, 11-4, 11-8 to Jess Engelbrecht in the 55-minute battle.

Three other Pakistan players –– Aamir Atlas Khan, Mansoor Zaman and Farhan Mehboob –– are already in the main draw.
