HYDERABAD: Fisherman’s killing condemned

HYDERABAD, Oct 15: Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum activists staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Wednesday to protest against alleged murder of a fisherman at the hands of a former contractor in the Guddu area.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Mallah, Ayoub Shan and others said that a few days ago Ghulam Rasool Mallah and 10 other fishermen were fishing near Guddu when they were attacked and injured by a former contractor and his two dozen armed henchmen. They said that later Ghulam Rasool died in a Kashmore hospital.

They said that although the contract system for fishing had been abolished but former contractors still occupied fresh water resources of Sindh.

They demanded that fishermen should be issued Shaheed Benazir Bhutto cards for fishing. They warned that if the killers of Ghulam Rasool were not arrested, they would stage country-wide protests.
