Rain heralds Culmination of summer

LAHORE, Oct 15: Light rain in Lahore and several other cities in Punjab that was coupled with gusty cold wind changed weather on Wednesday, heralding the culmination of long summer.

The rain and wind dropped temperature in Lahore by 10 degrees C, making people switch off air-conditioners.

The Met office said a westerly wave over Kashmir and adjoining areas of Pakistan also generated rain over there, lowering temperatures by several degrees C. Chief meteorologist Hazrat Mir said summer had been culminated in Punjab and temperatures lowered especially in the mountainous and hilly areas. It would remain cloudy with chances of light to moderate rain in Punjab, the NWFP and the Northern Areas during the next 24 hours, he said.

In Lahore, strong wind continued to blow throughout Tuesday night and on Wednesday. Early morning light rain around the airport made the wind cooler and kept weather pleasant during the day.

The maximum temperature dropped from Tuesday’s 33 degrees C to 23 degrees C, making people happy and comfortable. The change in weather was a great relief, allowing people to continue life without fans and air-conditioners during power outages.

The Met office said Sialkot received 21mm of rain, Jhelum 16mm, Kakul 15mm, Mandi Bahauddin and Muzaffarabad 7mm, Islamabad 6mm, Hunza 5mm, Sargodha 4mm, Balakot 3mm, and Lahore airport 2mm.
