China most important ally of Pakistan, says minister

ISLAMABAD, Oct 16: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman has termed China as the most important ally of Pakistan.

In a statement here on Thursday, she said President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to China reflected the all weather friendship between the two countries.

Ms Rehman’s comments came a day after Pakistan and China signed 11 pacts to enhance bilateral cooperation in energy, agriculture, mining, industry, infrastructure, disaster relief and space technology. This is the president’s first official visit after taking charge of the office last month. It reflects this government’s special relationship with China, and the reinforcement of our all weather, time-tested friendship with China, she added.

She said the foundation of the strong ties that exist between the two countries was laid by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. “Benazir Bhutto during her time in the government cemented these relations further. Our government is committed to strengthening these ties by extending cooperation in all areas, including cultural exchange.
