‘Govt striving to improve socio-economic conditions of masses’

ISLAMABAD, Oct 17: Member Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Sultan Mahmood Qazi has said the government under the guidance of President Asif Ali Zardari was trying to improve the socio-economic condition of the masses.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Public Secretariat here on Friday, he said the government was committed to provide basic amenities of life to the people. The ceremony was largely attended by the PPP workers, supporters and party leaders. On the occasion, the PPP workers chanted the slogans in favour of Benazir Bhutto.

Mr Qazi said President Zardari had saved the federation after the assassination of former prime minister and PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

He said Mr Zardari had the ability to steer the country out financial crises and his visit to China was uccessful. Mr Qazi said the visit would help improve bilateral ties between the two countries. He said people would get some relief under the PPP government’s Benazir Income Support Programme.

The PPP leader said the government was striving hard to eliminate the menace of terrorism in order to provide secure future for the next generation. He said the dictatorships in the past had been feeding the extremism in the country but now the elected government would provide better environment to the people.
