Suspected polio case reported in Multan
MULTAN, Oct 17: Doctors of Nishter Hospital have spotted symptoms of polio virus infection in a four-year-old girl and sent her samples for tests and proper diagnosis to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad.
Kainat, daughter of Pervaiz, of Writers’ Colony, was taken to Nishter Hospital on Thursday with lower half of her body paralysed. After initial examination, doctors found symptoms suggesting that she might have been infected with polio virus.Dr Farhan, who is district surveillance officer of the World Health Organisation, did not attend frequent calls made by Dawn on his cell phone.
However, another surveillance officer, on the condition of anonymity, told Dawn that girl’s samples had been collected and sent to the NIH for examination. He said that it was 68th suspected case of polio reported from this area and samples of 65 cases had been tested negative while results for the remaining three were pending.
Pervaiz said that his daughter had been given anti-polio vaccine drops for 32 times.
