Sanitation awareness

LAHORE, October 17: The Punjab government on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to develop awareness among school children about health, hygiene, sanitation and examine critically their school environment.

The programme applies to 4500 schools from Kasur, Sheikhupura, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Sargodha and Mianwali with the funding provided by the Norwegian government and regular sources.

The MoU was signed by the Programme Monitoring and Implement Unit (PMIU), School Education Department, Punjab Rural Support Programme (PRSP) and United Nations Children's Funds (UNICEF).

As per details of the memorandum, school councils in target primary and secondary schools are to be reactivated to promote hygienic practices among children and community.

Teachers will also be facilitated in forming hygiene clubs for monitoring physical environment of schools.
