Rs1bn for special children’s rehab

LAHORE, Oct 25: A state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre will be built in the provincial metropolis for the education and training of special children at a cost of Rs1 billion.

Senior Provincial Minister Raja Riaz said this while speaking as chief guest at a meeting of the Al-Ajam Scouts at the Alhamra Art Centre here on Saturday.

The minister said special attention was being given for the education and rehabilitation of the blind and mentally handicapped boys and girls.

He said institutions had been established for the education and rehabilitation of special children at the district and tehsil level. Special children were also being provided free Braille books and transport facilities at the institutions.

Mr Ahmed said the parents of the blind children should pay attention to their health because 90 per cent of their eye diseases could be cured after treatment.

Special children, he said, could be rehabilitated through education and training like normal persons. The NGOs should arrange cornea donations for restoring the eyesight of the blind.Provincial Sports and Culture Minister Dr Tanvirul Islam and MPA Uzma Bokahri also attended the meeting in which blind students presented tableaus and songs.
