Nawaz for diplomatic efforts for Dr Aafia’s release

LAHORE, Oct 27: PML-N patron and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has called for using diplomatic channels to make the United States release Dr Aafia Siddiqui and her two children.

“Dr Aafia is a daughter of Pakistan, and Islamabad should immediately use its diplomatic sources to force the United States to release and send her back along with her two children,” he said while talking to Dr Aafia’s sister Dr Fauzia Siddiqui who called on him here at his Raiwind residence on Monday.

Dr Aafia, along with her three children, had reportedly gone missing five years ago in Karachi. She was produced before a court in the US only recently after a British journalist Yvonne Ridley broke news about the ‘Grey Lady of Bagram’ (prisoner 650). She is facing charges of attacking American soldiers in Afghanistan.

Dr Fauzia during her meeting with Mr Sharif lamented the inhuman torture her sister was facing under custody in the US and sought his help in tracing Dr Aafia’s missing children. The PML-N leader assured her of his party’s full support for the recovery of Dr Aafia and her offsprings.
