Proctor named CSA convener of selectors
DUBAI (United Arab Emirates), Oct 27: Mike Proctor has quit as an ICC match referee to become the convener of selectors for Cricket South Africa (CSA).
Proctor, who officiated in 47 Tests, 154 One-day Internationals and 15 Twenty20 Internationals since becoming a match referee in 2002, will leave the ICC after the limited-overs matches between Pakistan and the West Indies and also Zimbabwe’s series with Sri Lanka.
“On behalf of the ICC, I would like to thank Mike for his service as an Emirates Elite Panel Match Referee,” ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said on Monday.
Procter was appointed last Friday by CSA, which also said Mickey Arthur’s contract as national team coach had been extended. Both appointments are through to the 2011 World Cup.
Procter was restricted during his playing days as a fast bowler because apartheid kept South Africa out of international sport. He coached his national team when it was allowed back into international play in 1991.—AP
