Saudi Arabia announces $100m aid

ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz announced on Friday an aid of $100 million for the quake-affected people of Balochistan.

Korea offered $100,000 in relief goods, including tents, blankets and towels.

Chinese Ambassador Luo Zahao handed over a cheque for $50,000 on behalf of the China Red Cross to Pakistan Red Crescent Society Chairman Saeed Ahmad Qureshi.

The ambassador said the government and people of China were with their Pakistani brethren in their hour of need.

The PRCS chairman thanked the ambassador for the Chinese help.

He said the PRCS was in the process of launching an international appeal for Rs63 million through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Mr Qureshi said the decision was taken after an assessment of damage carried out by PRCS and IFRC teams. He said that three medical teams of the PRCS were operating in Ziarat and a relief team was taking part in rescue and relief operation in other affected areas.
