KRL beat Pakistan Steel as PIA hold Army in PPFL

LAHORE, Oct 31: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) cut Pakistan Steel to size 3-1 while Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) drew 1-1 with Army in the two Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played at separate venues of Rawalpindi on Friday.

The first match between KRL and Pakistan Steel at the KRL Stadium saw striker Mohammad Rasool stealing the limelight for his side once again to clinch the match for them.

KRL held the upper hand throughout the 90 minutes of play and led 2-0 at interval, giving no room whatsoever to the visitors from Karachi. Sizzling front-runner Mohammad Rasool fired the opener in the 13th minute with a 30-metre drive. Winger Mohammad Qasim doubled the margin when Rasool opened the gate for him to dash through and send the ball low in the left corner.

KRL maintained superiority when Qasim dragged the ball from the goal line and Rasool struck his second with an immensely powerful right footer. It was Rasool’s 17th goal of the event, keeping him the leading scorer of the show. Steel fired an honour-saving goal in the 85th minute through winger Fazal Hussain.

At the Army Stadium, Rawalpindi, Army were the first to settle down with a 13th-minute lead when striker Imran Hussain went to smash the ball in on his own. The soldiers led 1-0 at interval.

PIA went all out in quest of a leveller in the second session and achieved the target when skipper Nasrullah Khan made it 1-1 with a long-range drive.

Saturday’s fixtures: Navy v Habib Bank Limited at Naval Complex, Islamabad; Pakistan Television v National Bank of Pakistan at PSB Ground near Hamidi Hall, Islamabad. Matches kick off at 3.30pm.—Agencies
