N.As CE, seven others booked: Attack on port official

HUNZA, Nov 3: An FIR has been registered against the chief executive of the Northern Areas after four unknown persons attacked the director of the Sost Dry Port Trust here on Monday.

Ahmedullah was returning home at midnight after visiting a patient when he was attacked and badly injured.

He has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital Gilgit.

According to a police source, an FIR (15/08) has been lodged against seven persons including the Chief Executive Northern Areas Ghazanfar Ali Khan under section 324 and 109/34 of the PPC (Pakistan Penal Code).

Talking to this correspondent, Afsar Jan, chairman of the Sost Dry Port Trust, accused Mr Ghazanfar of orchestrating the attack.

He said after Mr Ghazanfar, after losing legal battle, had started using unethical ways to create problems for the newly-appointed management of cabinet. He said Mr Ghazanfar was misusing his political office to create hurdles in smooth functioning of the port affairs.

Fida Karim, president Pakistan People’s Party, Hunza chapter, also condemned the incident and said it was an attempt to sabotage the peace of Hunza. He accused former cabinet of the port trust of using such tactics to cover up their corruption. Meanwhile, public circles here have also condemned the incident and said it would disrupt the peaceful environment of the whole Hunza valley.

They also criticised the police guards of the Chief Executive for opening fire into the air during a marriage ceremony in Gulmit recently.
