‘US change likely to bring world peace’

MULTAN, Nov 6: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman says change in US leadership is likely to bring peace to the world.

Talking to journalists here on Thursday at local airport, Maulana Fazl, an MNA and chairman of the Kashmir Committee, said his party was not against having friendly relations with the western nations and USA. However, these relations ought to be established on the basis of equality, he stressed.

He said war was no solution to national or international problems. Fazl called upon the US and other western countries to withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He said Republicans’ defeat in the US polls had established the fact that the American people wanted peace and prosperity all over the world and not bloodshed.

He stressed upon the US leadership to acknowledge smaller nations’ sovereignty and right to elect any party or individual and adopt any system of governance.

On the question of Kashmir, he said the dispute must be resolved according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people. “The ultimate choice is theirs.”

He reiterated for the need of holding talks with local Taliban and said differences could be resolved through jirgas. —APP
