Rana Naved in full cry as Badshahs win

AHMEDABAD, Nov 8: Rana Naved-ul-Hasan turned in a sterling all-round performance to lead Lahore Badshahs to a handsome five-wicket win over Dhaka Warriors in their crucial Indian Cricket League (ICL) match at the Sardar Patel Stadium here on Friday.

Naved captured three wickets to restrict Warriors to 145 for seven off their 20 overs and then hammered 64 runs with six glorious sixes — three in one over of Mohammed Rafique - as Badshahs crossed Dhaka Warriors’ total in 16.1 overs with five wickets to spare.

Mohammad Yousuf made his much heralded debut in the tournament but did not last long, much to the disappointment of a large crowd that had gathered here especially to watch the visitors in action. Imran Farhat also got only one run while his opening partner Imran Nazir banged 27.

Lahore skipper Inzamam-ul Haq stayed till victory was achieved, hitting three boundaries in his 27 not out much to the delight of his wife and other Pakistani fans who were watching the match from the pavilion.

Earlier, Badshahs put the brakes on the Bangladesh team when they were cruising at 94 for the loss of three wickets in the 13th over. Just as Warriors’ middle order was getting ready to consolidate the efforts of the top batsmen, Naved and Mohammed Sami struck vital blows that eventually saw Dhaka Warriors reach an unsatisfactory total off 145 for seven off their 20 overs.

Nazimuddin and Shariar Nafees gave the right start to the Dhaka side by putting on 51 runs without getting separated off 7.4 overs.

Scores: Dhaka Warrriors 145-7 (20 overs) (S Nafees 35; S Mushtaq 3-35, Naved-ul-Hasan 3-18); Lahore Badshahs Naved-ul Hasan 64; Tapash Baisya 2-25, Mohammad Rafique 2-48).—Agencies
