HYDERABAD: Revenue dept being revamped: minister
HYDERABAD, Nov 11: The Sindh government has decided to reorganise, revamp and modernise the Revenue Department, said provincial minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of ‘tapedari training course at the Tapedari Training College (TTC) here on Monday evening, he said that the impression about the performance of Revenue Department was unsatisfactory as not a single deh in Sindh could be called a model deh with updated revenue record.
He said that he himself was receiving hundreds of complaints every day about wrong entries and Khata Badal that reflected distortions and mismanagement in the department. He said protection of public and private land was the department’s duty.
The government has decided to bring about changes by computerising revenue record and reactivating Gothabad Housing Scheme Act along with upgrading the post of tapedars and other lower staff for making them financially and morally sound, he said.
The Tapedari College remained non-functional for 10 year as previous rulers were not ready to accept the merit list of those qualifying their tests conducted by the IBA, he said.
Earlier government’s practice was either to create hurdles in the training of selected candidates or to install their favourites, said the minister.
The government he said was committed to providing jobs and as such it had accepted the merit list of the IBA not only in Revenue but in Education and other departments also.
He disclosed that the tapedar course had been redesigned to bring it up to international standards along with imparting the knowledge of Information Technology, GIS, and the GPS System. This would help them in securing jobs in multinational companies once they decide to leave, he said.
The minister stressed on including current affairs in the course.
He told journalists that land grabbing increased from 2002 to 2006 when the Revenue Department was devolved and its administrative command disappeared.
