Zardari not to meet Obama

ISLAMABAD, Nov 11: President Asif Ali Zardari will not meet President-elect Barack Obama during his two-day visit to the United States to attend a special UN General Assembly session.

“Neither have we sent any request to the US government for the meeting nor are we expecting it,” Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Sadiq told Dawn.

President Zardari who left for New York on Tuesday is expected to return on Friday.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has reached New York to accompany President Zardari to the UN session.

A statement issued by the Foreign Office said: “Pakistan fully supports the initiative of Saudi King Abdullah for inter-faith and inter-cultural dialogue to promote peace, understanding and tolerance among human beings, as well as respect for all their diverse religious, cultural and linguistic identities.”
