HYDERABAD: Call to promote farm sector
HYDERABAD, Nov 13: Dr Inayatullah Kathio of Pittston Animal Hospital, USA said on Thursday that Pakistan had so far failed to develop and promote agriculture sector and said that the farming community had not learnt the methodology of preserving milk and dairy products even in this scientific age.
Talking to journalists at the press club, Dr Kathio who is on a weeklong visit to Pakistan as FAO consultant warned that if new technology and methodology was not adopted for the preservation of dairy goods and treatment of milk-giving animals, the situation would worsen over a few years.
Surprisingly, there were no organised cattle farms in the country and it was not difficult to foresee what would happen after 10 years, he said.
New technology was essential for the preservation of eggs, milk and meat and it was equally important that the animals be fed pure and clean fodder, he said.
He urged the veterinary students to concentrate on latest veterinary sciences and said that goats in Sindh were becoming blind and had developed bone defects due to some inexplicable diseases. He said that he visited Sindh at least twice a year on his own and tried to teach the students of Sindh Agriculture University about latest technology for preservation of dairy products and treatment of animals with the help of latest equipment he brought with him.
