Pakistan beat Jordan in Chess Olympiad

KARACHI, Nov 22: Pakistan raised their points tally to 19 when they recorded a resounding 3.5 – 5 points victory over Jordan in the 38th Chess Olympiad in Dresden, Germany.

According to the message received here on Saturday, Karachi’s Mohammad Waqar showed great talent to defeat B.T. Rimvi, securing his seventh win in eight rounds.

National championship runner-up Amir Karim after struggling earlier in the event beat S. Bilal.

Khalil Butt overcame Mansor while Haseeb Ahmed played a draw against Samhoni.

As an individual, Waqar is leading the list with seven points while Haseeb got 5.5, Khalil Butt four and Amir is lying fourth with just 2.5 points.

Pakistan women team however continued their dismal run when they went 1.5 – 2.5 down in the eighth round. They so far have ten points.

Kiran, Nida Mishraz and Sabeeka played draw against their respective opponents, but Zenobia Wasif suffered another defeat.

In the men’s competition, Armenia is leading with 15 match points and in women’s, China is leading with 14 match points.—APP
