ISLAMABAD, Nov 24: The Indian national anthem reverberated in the air over and over again as the visiting marksmen claimed six gold medals in the individual events on the third day of the fourth South Asian Shooting Championship on Monday.

The Indian shooters also clinched three gold medals in the team events, exhibiting precision, concentration and accuracy to hit every shot on target.

Radhika Barale, from India secured a gold medal in 10m air rifle. Individual women’s event scoring an unprecedented 495.3 and also creating a new South Asian record.

Speaking to Dawn, Radhika remarked: “The first forty shots were not so accurate but the final went fine as I was more focused to hit the target”.

Radhika was followed by Priya Agarwal scoring 494.1 to win a the silver medal while Lajja Gauswami took the bronze medal at 491.4.

Shewta Chowdhry, from India bagged a gold medal in the 25m pistol women’s individual event with a marginal 0.1 lead against compatriot Annuraj Singh who scored 766.5 winning a silver. Shewta,22, commented after winning the gold “I believe it was my day though the final was really tough.”

She added that it was by virtue of the last series in which her opponent performed badly which led her to claim the gold.

Anisa Syed from India grabbed the bronze scoring 759.7 in the same event.

In the 50m pistol men’s individual pistol event a composed Satendra Kumar from India scored a good 647.8 to win a gold while his fellow Indian Viraj Singh posted 635.5 on the points table claiming a silver medal. Omkar Singh from India bagged bronze medal scoring 634.8.

In the 10m air rifle women’s team’s event the unstoppable Indians shooters grouped for a gold medal scoring a top 1176 as Bangladesh claimed a silver with a score of 1161.

Pakistan claimed the bronze scoring 1136.

India also took a gold in the 25m pistol women’s team event scoring a match best 1705 while Sri Lanka clinched a silver with a score of 1659 while Pakistan had to be content with a bronze with 1621.

In 50m pistol men’s team event India scored an unmatchable 1641 score claiming a gold as host Pakistan took a silver with a score of 1592. Bangladeshi marksmen grabbed a bronze scoring 1442.

India are on top of the medals table with a total tally of 28 followed by Pakistan with 12 medals. Bangladesh is at number three with eight followed by Sri Lanka with three medals.
