ITF women’s tournament reaches last-eight stage

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25: Five Indians, two Koreans and a Portuguese stormed into the singles quarter-finals of the first ITF Pakistan Women’s Future Tennis Circuit at the PTF tennis complex on Tuesday.

Those who have qualified for the last eight include A. Venkataraman, Shivika Burman, P Venkatesha, K. Solanki, Parul Goswami (India), Shin Jung Yoon, Kim Hae-Sung (Korea) and M De Lattre (Portugal).

Top seed M De Lattre, from Portugal was in good form as she eliminated Reddy Harshini of India without conceding a single game in both sets 6-0, 6-0.

She will now face Shin Jung Yoon from Korea in the quarter-final. Shin Jung of Korea eliminated Prerana of India in straight sets 6-0 6-3.

Fourth seed Kim Hae Sung proved too good for Arthi of India and did not allow her to settle down throughout the match with her cross courts and down the line shots.

She won the first set 6-0 breaking the second, fourth and eighth game of Arthi.

In the second set she kept the same pressure and won the second set 6-1 breaking the second and seventh game of the Indian player.

A Ventkataraman got a walkover against Ham Hi-Rae who did not report for the match. Sixth seed Burman Shivika of India struggled hard to win her encounter against Bhattacharyya in a well contested two set match 6-4, 6-3.

Third seed P Benkatesha of India finished the hope of Pakistani players defeating Saba Aziz in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Solanki K of India was too good for Ushna Suhail of Pakistan winning her match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
