Grenade attack on Kashmir poll rally

SRINAGAR, Nov 25: One person was killed and four others injured in occupied Kashmir on Tuesday when a grenade was hurled at an election rally, police said.

The attack took place in Sopore town, about 45km north of Srinagar, while a pro-India party candidate was campaigning for elections. Sopore goes to the polls on Dec 7.

“Mohammed Ashraf Ganai of National Conference party survived the attack carried out by forces who want to subvert elections,” Abdul Hamid, a police official said. The National Conference is occupied Kashmir’s largest pro-India political party.

Kashmiri leaders, most of whom remain in jail or under house arrest, have renewed an appeal for a boycott of the elections.
