Notices to four women MNAs on Punjab quota

LAHORE, Nov 26: Lahore High Court Justice Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi issued notices on Wednesday to four members of the National Assembly (MNAs) in a petition challenging their election to the National Assembly on reserved seats for women. The court also issued a notice to the chief election commissioner.

Petitioner Najma Ahmad, through advocate Tariq Aziz, said MNAs Begum Nuzhat Sadiq, Sabeen Rizvi, Shireen Arshad and Tasnim Sadiq, all from the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), were from the federal territory and could not be elected MNAs on Punjab quota. They encroached upon her client’s right, who was from Punjab

The lawyer said there was no quota for the federal territory as it was introduced exclusively for the provinces. The lawyer asked the court to declare the election of the four MNAs illegal because it violated Article 51 of the constitution. The court will resume the proceedings on Dec 20.
