Nawaz condemns drone attacks

ISLAMABAD, Nov 26: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has said that drone attacks inside Pakistan should be stopped immediately. He urged the international community to respect Pakistan’s sovereignty.

“Pakistan is a sovereign and democratic state and any decision taken by its parliament must be respected,” Mr Sharif said while talking to British Foreign Secretary David Miliband who had called on him here on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by the British High Commissioner, other senior officials of the High Commission and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

According to sources in the PML-N, Mr Sharif conveyed his concerns over continuing drone attacks and termed them a threat to Pakistan’s sovereignty.

The PML-N leader told the foreign secretary that the resolution passed by a joint session of the two houses of parliament depicted the sentiment of the Pakistani people. He said Pakistanis wanted the issue resolved through dialogue.

Mr Miliband appreciated the resolution and termed it a milestone for solving the issue of militancy in the region. He stressed the need for evolving strong and good relationship between Pakistan and India.

The PML-N chief said his party wanted good relations between Pakistan and India and always advocated dialogue for resolving issues.
