Indians hog limelight in South Asian Shooting

ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: Indian Shooters quenched their thirst for medals on the last day of the fourth South Asian Shooting Championship claiming two gold medals in the individual and team events at the Gun Club of Pakistan Sports Complex on Thursday.

Sushil Ghalay, from India shot a good score of 1,255.6 in 50m rifle 3 x 40 individual men’s event claiming a gold medal while his compatriot Surendra Singh tallied up 1,255.3 winning a bronze. SMM Samarkon from Sri Lanka bagged a bronze finishing with a score of 1,238.4.

In the 50m rifle 3 x 40 men’s team event India settled with a gold medal scoring a magnificent 3,452.

Indian marksmen, Surendra Singh, Sushila Ghalay and Manoj Kumar performed excellently in the final four series finishing with score of 1,158, 1,158 and 1,136.

Pakistani team comprising Siddique Umar, Ayaz Tahir and Dawood Jan shot well in the initial series. Siddque finished with score of 1,136.

However, Ayaz Tahir and Dawood Jan could not find their form to create an impact on the Indian shooters in the last four series ending up with a score of 1,130 and 1,118 grabbing silver.

Pakistan fell short of a few points finishing second on the podium in the last series.

Bangladesh took a bronze as their team members Taufick Shahrear scored 1,123 score) , Ramjan Ali 1,112 and Saiful Alam 1,106 summing up 3,341 on points table.
