Sarah, Mehak move into second round of ITF tennis

ISLAMABAD, Dec 1: Sarah Mahboob from Pakistan trounced compatriot Saba Aziz in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 to move into the second leg of the ITF Women’s Futures tennis tournament played at the PTF Tennis Complex on Monday.

Sarah will now face Arthi Venkataraman from India in the second round.

Similarly, Pakistan’s Mehak Khokhar proved too good for Mehreen Izhar also from Pakistan clinching the game in straight sets 6-1, 3-1.

Besides, the two Pakistani women, Indians Depiti Srivastava, Prerana Partahap, Treta Bhattacharyya, Arthi Venkataraman and Prathana Prathap along with Jung Yoon Shin of Korea advanced into the second round also.

The most thrilling match of the day was played between Prerana Prathap from India and Ushna Suhail from Pakistan.

Prerana built up the winning lead 3-0 in the first set breaking Ushna’s second game.

The game was levelled by Ushna as she played with consistency from the base line breaking the fifth game of Prerana. The score went up 6-6 as both players held their respective services.

Prerana played excellent shorts during the tie break and won it at 7-2. In the second set both the players played long rallies from the base line when the score was 4-4.

Ushna won the second set 6-4 breaking the 10th game of the Indian player. The third set was marked with combination of good forehand and backhand shots by Prerana as the game was again tied 4-4.

The Indian player struck some excellent volleys winning the final set 6-4.

In the doubles, Kim Hae-Sung & Shung Yoon Shin (Korea), Prerana Prathap and Prathana Prathap (India) and Arthi Venkataraman and Archana Venkararaman (India) moved into the second round.
