Villagers’ protest

FAISALABAD, Dec 4: Some 200 villagers, including women and children, of Samundari staged a sit-in outside the city police officer’s (CPO) office on Thursday against police for implicating innocent people in cases.

Carrying banners and placards, the protesters told newsmen that a couple of days ago, the Samundari city police registered a case against Abdul Rahman and Abdul Ghaffar on charges of selling narcotics in the area. They claimed that the two men had gone to Muridwala on the day when the police registered a case against them.

The villagers continued their sit-in for an hour and demanded the CPO to depute an honest officer to probe the matter. They dispersed when they were told that a probe had been ordered in this regard. —Staff Correspondent
