HYDERABAD: Artiste passes away

HYDERABAD, Dec 11: Noted radio and TV artiste, Yaqoob Zakaria breathed his last here on Monday night. He was 72 and has left behind three sons and three daughters.

The late artist was suffering from many ailments and while he was going to Latifabad in a mini taxi, he suffered a stroke and died on his way to the hospital. His mortal remains were laid to rest in Tando Yousuf graveyard on Eid day. His Soyem was held at his Liaquat Colony residence on Thursday.

He had started his career in 1958 as a radio artist and his first radio play was “Bahadur” written by Saleem Ahmed in 1958. He had acted in many radio, stage and TV Sindhi as well as Urdu dramas. His famous TV serials included Deewarein, Jungle, Chand Girhan, Mandi and many others. He was so committed to his art that in one of his plays, he got all his teeth extracted.

Noted artists Mushtaq Changezi, Shahbaz Durrani, Asad Qureshi, Manan Abbasi and others have expressed their grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Yaqoob Zakaria.
