Pakistan beat Thailand in opener

KARACHI, Dec 13: Pakistan’s Junior Under-21 women’s hockey team won its opening match against Thailand in the Women’s Junior Asia Cup by 2-1 on Saturday.

According to details received from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the first half ended in a 1-1 draw. Both of Pakistan’s field goals were scored by forward Nazia Rehmat.

Later Mohammad Akhlaq, the winning team’s coach, said that the win was a good sign for women’s hockey in Pakistan. “The girls played to the best of their ability and were rewarded through victory against Thailand.

Pakistan will play their second match against Japan on Sunday. —Agencies
