Asif seeks venue switch

KARACHI, Dec 14: Disgraced fast bowler Mohammad Asif wants the hearing for his doping offence to be held outside India because of its strained relations with Pakistan in the aftermath of the recent attacks in Mumbai by extremists.

“We are considering asking for the hearing to be held at a neutral venue because of the tense conditions,” the Pakistani paceman’s lawyer, Shahid Karim, said on Sunday.

Asif failed a dope test while playing in the Indian Premier League in June, his third drugs-related offence in two years.

He tested positive in 2006 and was detained in Dubai earlier this year for carrying a banned substance.—Reuters
