MARDAN: Policeman killed, two hurt in attack

MARDAN, Dec 16: A policeman was killed and two others got injuries when unidentified armed men opened fire on a patrolling party late on Monday night.

According to sources, Assistant Sub-inspector Noorul Wahab, Jabbar Khan, Mohammad Ghani and Daud were on routine patrolling on Mardan-Baghdada road when the incident happened near Farm Koroona in the jurisdiction of Hoti police station.

The unidentified persons opened indiscriminate fire on them as a result head constable Jabbar died on the spot while constables Ghani and Daud sustained bullet injuries. However, Wahab remained unhurt. Hoti police registered an FIR against the assailants and started investigation.

VEHICLES FINED: On the directives of the deputy superintendent of City police, over 400 vehicles were fined about Rs80,000 for violation of traffic rules.

According to the police, about 36 Suzuki pickups, 11 tractors, 12 cars, 168 Qingqi rickshaws, 38 Datsun pickups, and a number of flying coaches, buses and trucks were fined.

UPLIFT PROJECTS: Commissioner Mardan division, Khalid Khan Umarzai, has asked officials of various departments to act honestly and complete development projects in time.

He urged officers of the revenue department to dispose off pending cases and check ‘lethargy’ in relevant developmental works. He directed them to take action against those contractors who delayed projects and did not complete constructions in time.

The commissioner asked the officials to deal visitors gently and help them in every possible way. —Correspondent
