Protesters rain pastries on Greek mayor

THESSALONIKI (Greece), Dec 20: Youths protesting the fatal shooting of a teenager by police on Saturday occupied a prominent film hall in the Greek city of Thessaloniki while others pelted the city mayor with pastries, police said.

Around 30 youths took over the Olympion film hall that hosts the annual Thessaloniki film festival, unfurling a banner to express solidarity with dozens of protesters arrested during two weeks of demonstrations that followed the death of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos on December 6.

At the same time, another group of youths threw pastries at City Mayor Vassilis Papageorgopoulos during a Christmas feast.

Around 200 people have been arrested during demonstrations in Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities over the last two weeks to demand justice for Grigoropoulos. Some of the early protests turned into riots and looting rampages by youths.—AFP
