KARACHI: President tells nation to remain united
KARACHI, Dec 23: Addressing a People’s Unity workers’ rally in Karachi via telephone on Tuesday, President Asif Ali Zardari called for the nation to remain united in order to tackle the current challenges Pakistan is faced with.
Saying that the Bhuttos had given their blood for the nation, he said that though conspirators had taken away Benazir Bhutto from the people through a well-planned intrigue, the party would continue to fight for the survival of Pakistan and carry forward the slain leader’s vision to ensure that the country took its rightful place in the comity of nations.
Mr Zardari pledged that he would work for “visible change”, keeping the interests of the working class, farmers and students at the forefront, adding that the party remained committed to providing education and health-care to all. He said that the people would not be kept in the dark about vital national issues.
The president said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave the masses political consciousness while Benazir Bhutto pursued her father’s struggle for 30 years. He pledged to continue the mission for the promotion of democracy and the rights of the people.—Staff Reporter
