Militants publicly execute ‘murderers’

LANDI KOTAL, Dec 23: The Lashkar-i-Islam militant organisation publicly executed two alleged murderers in Bara town of Khyber Agency on Tuesday.

Lashkar-i-Islam said the two had been arrested by their ‘armed volunteers’ in Bara because of complaints about their involvement in a murder and that the two confessed to the murder and other crimes before a shura.

The men, identified as Islam Badshah and Ziarat Gul, were shot by relatives of the men they had allegedly murdered.

AFP adds: Tribesmen blindfolded the two criminals and tied their hands behind their backs before shooting them with rifles.

Around 500 local tribesmen watched the executions, which took place after the suspects were tried in a self-styled court headed by local militants.

The official said the two men had been accused of several crimes, but were sentenced to death after pleading guilty to the recent murder of a taxi driver.

The court authorised the uncle and brother of the deceased to shoot the two criminals.
