President meets JCSC chief

ISLAMABAD, Dec 23: President Asif Ali Zardari and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Gen Tariq Majeed, met on Tuesday amid growing tension between Pakistan and India.

An official statement said that the two leaders discussed matters relating to the armed forces. Although Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh have said the two countries did not want war, their armed forces are nevertheless mobilising resources to meet any eventuality.

Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan did not want tension on borders and would act responsibly and with caution.

“Nobody wants tensions on borders. We are moving responsibly and with caution,” he told reporters here on Tuesday.
