LARKANA: Cotton to be sown on 50,000 acres

LARKANA, May 12: Sindh Agriculture Secretary Abdul Rashid Memon said on Saturday that a target of sowing cotton on 50,000 acres had been fixed for Larkana, Shikarpur and Jacobabad districts.

He said this while presiding over a meeting of growers.

He said a training programme for growers in the three districts would start soon, and added that so far 22,367 acres had been found feasible for cotton crop.

He said that growers would be provided certified seeds on 50 per cent subsidy rate.

Earlier, during his visit to the Z.A. Bhutto Agriculture College, Dokri, Memon said the Sindh government was considering merging the college with the agriculture department.

Meanwhile, Larkana District Coordination Officer Mohammad Hashim Leghari on Saturday chaired a meeting of growers in this connection.

The coordinator for the cotton development project, Sindh, while briefing the participants, said that a target of 5,000 hectares had been fixed in the province during the Khairf season.
