England fined for slow over-rate

DUBAI, Dec 24: England’s six-wicket defeat in the first Test against India in Chennai was compounded on Wednesday by the team being fined for a slow over-rate by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Kevin Pietersen’s side were ruled by match referee Jeff Crowe, the former New Zealand batsman, to have fallen one over short of their target.

England’s players were fined five percent of their match fees with Pietersen, as captain, seeing his fine doubled to 10 per cent.

India won the two-match series 1-0 after the second Test in Mohali was drawn on Tuesday.
